Get Drunk and Cry: The Short Film
I worked on my first album for 6 years. 6 YEARS!!! Some of the songs are even older than that. I'll have to write another blog at some point on why it took that long, (being a female in this industry can be an, ahem, a challenge at times...) but when it finally was coming out I knew I wanted to celebrate in a big way! (Go give a gal a spin 👉🏻 on spotify.)
I approached my label on making a visual album to go with the release and they were really excited about the idea. We ended up taking a liiiiiittle too long in the planning phase and had to knock it down to shooting only half the album but that actually helped me put the pieces together a lot! What we came up with is 5 songs off the record with audio in between that weaves it all together into one pretty true to life storyline.
Writing the scripts was intimidating to say the least but I'm so proud of the way they came out. I basically scored through my diary and then called up too of my best gals, Eavie Porter and Emily Reid and we sat down with quite a few bottles of rosé to make it all work. AKA I was like here's what I'm thinking, is it too dramatic. And they said YUP. So we paired it way down and made it much more conversation like. Where would I be without my gals???!!!
Then, recording the scripts. SO MUCH FUN. Did I mention this girl loves drama? The fake kind not the real life kind. My bud Wes Harllee helped me make some tracks that went in between the songs and we had a blast doing it. I love diving into a creative world where I have no idea what I'm doing and just rolling with it! (Ummm hello blogging!)
One of the coolest things to come out of making this short film was the reaction I've gotten. There were so many comments on facebook where people were saying things like "That's my life." Or, "My fiance just left me and I'm devastated and I can't wait till I feel the way you do in the last song." Um.... mind blowing. There is absolutely no better feeling than when you release art into the world and it helps people. Even in the tiniest way. And seeing all those comments makes me feel like I'm not alone. That I'm not the only one who's ever had their heart smashed into a thousand pieces. So thank you guys. 💖
We ended up filming, editing, and releasing the entire project in under 30 days! Whew. That was a whirlwind. But I'm so happy with the end result. Have you guys seen it yet? Check it out right here and tell me all about your feels!!! 👇🏻
All my 💖,
