Coming soon, the next studio release from Ruthie Collins, White Flags

My last record, Cold Comfort, was an emotional rollercoaster, to write, to record and even to listen to. A creation of sacred vulnerability top to bottom, a journey of picking up the broken pieces after loss and heartache. What comes next? For me, both personally, and professionally, this first independent release is a surrender of that loss, the kind of aching where you cry and wonder and scream at the sky because maybe you aren’t really worthy of real love, maybe it just won’t ever happen for you. And it’s in that surrender, that release of the dream that maybe, great love will find you after all. That perhaps true freedom is found when you finally pick up that white flag, and fly it high.

- Ruthie

“Perhaps it's the authenticity that seems to spill from the singer/songwriter's greenish-blue eyes or the way her truth comes through each and every lyric she sings, or maybe it's the fact that Collins, 37, is one of the few that isn't about to put a filter on the mental game the world seems to be going through as of late”

About

Ruthie Collins wears her heart on her sleeve, and pretty much always has a sparkle in her eyes. Raised on a farm in Fredonia, NY, Collins blends the vulnerable, the volatile, and the serene in her music. Her songs straddle the line between Americana, Bluegrass, and modern Country, upheld by buoyant and agile vocals reminiscent of her musical icons, Patty Griffin and Emmylou Harris. Collins’ music features some upright bass and traditional bluegrass instrumentation in a style that’s both old-fashioned and completely modern. In her own words, the timeless quality of her music is simply a manifestation of her love for timeless objects, stories, and traditions: “I am drawn to things that speak of permanence.”
